Local school children recently had the opportunity to work in partnership with local sustainable farmers. The McGuinness Family invited each child in the school to plant a pumpkin seed on their farm. The family nurtured these seeds for many months before inviting the children back to harvest their own pumpkins. The children then held a pumpkin findraising sale to raise money for the local Astro turf project. A whopping €1,000 was raised from the sale of the pumpkins. In addition to raising money, the children had first hand experience of the full life cycle of a pumpkin. This led into really interesting discussions with the children on the value of growing their own food. This project really connected the children with nature and exposed them to how important it is to take care of the world around us and reinforced to them that they’re never too young to make an impact in the world.
